Universe: The Engine
An immortal-wanderer science-fantasy spanning a hundred thousand years and fifty galaxies, in which a man dies and is reseeded life after life across worlds by the void entity bound to him.
The Engine is an immortal-wanderer science-fantasy universe and one of the Loom's stitches — the story of a single man carried across a hundred thousand years and fifty galaxies by dying and waking again. Its inhabitants name death itself as the door between worlds, never suspecting it is one of five names for one act.
The cosmology
The setting spans the Local Group and its neighbours — the roughly fifty nearest galaxies. The Milky Way holds five worlds in play (Earth is Planet 1); each other galaxy holds three. Named early worlds include Planar (a toxic-plant world), Balor (a wet, high-gravity Earth-analog), and Lyria (a near-Earth twin that independently evolved a near-Neanderthal species). The far future adds Andromeda and the Weavers' station, around 55,000 AD.
Power systems
- Void-resurrection — when the body fails, the void entity Vael pulls the wanderer's pattern through the Void and reseeds it in a new body on a biocompatible world. The Planet Rule: die on Earth, wake off-world; die off-world, usually wake on Earth. He cannot choose when, where, or which body.
- The Hoard — a subspace inventory keyed to the man, not the planet; its contents never decay. It cannot hold anything heavier than his current body, anything still breathing, or another void-touched thing.
- The discipline ("Improved-Body") — absolute autonomic control and clean healing, built with Vael over centuries; it includes the Bell, a grown organ behind the sternum that floods him into a berserker state at severe cost.
He is not a god. A bullet still hurts; only what happens after is different.
Key characters
- Ghor — "Adam" and a hundred other names; the protagonist and first-person narrator, born a Neanderthal around 45,000 BC.
- Vael — the Spectral Void Entity bound to him since his death, and the source of all his powers. She is never shown directly.
- Sefira — a Weaver, the liaison selected over four thousand years to interview him.
- The Weavers — a hyper-advanced Andromeda civilization, orphaned descendants of the Exodus colonists, whose inherited Codex has begun detecting "a current — the same shape repeating across worlds."
Key events
The first death, around 45,000 BC, and the binding to Vael; millennia of lives across the galaxies; the Exodus around 3,500 AD, when Ghor weaponizes one of his own deaths into a network of stargates, humanity spreads across the galaxies, and the network then frays and collapses; and Chapter 1, around 55,000 AD, when he wakes in the Weavers' white cube and negotiates terms with Sefira.
Theories & resonances
The Codex's detected "current — the same shape repeating across worlds" is the strongest outside hint of the Loom anywhere in the wiki. Whether the Weavers are unknowingly reading the weave, whether the current is a karma thread, and whether Vael's unseen kind are agents of the between-place are all threads the wiki may pull. It must not conclude.
