Universe: Sky Pillar

A xianxia told from a non-human point of view — the rise of a sentient cultivator tree from a woken sapling to a world-shaking Monarch a thousand kilometres tall.

Sky Pillar is a xianxia universe told from a non-human point of view — the slow, patient rise of a sentient tree up the cultivation ladder — and one of the Loom's stitches. Its protagonist is not a person who finds power but a plant that wakes into it.

The world

The setting is Yunus Planet, whose "Small Southern Archipelago" alone holds hundreds of continents. Its cultivation ladder runs Qi Condensation → Foundation → Core Formation → HegemonMonarchAutarch. Divine sense — spiritual perception — reaches hundreds of kilometres for a Core Formation cultivator and thousands for a Monarch. Monarchs form inner worlds, pocket universes of their own; Autarchs create galaxies and can eventually roam between worlds.

Power system

Yunus runs on qi-cultivation, but its ladder maps onto the wider nine realms of the Loom at the top: a Monarch's inner world answers to the small inner world that opens at Void Stepping, and an Autarch's galaxy-making and world-roaming answer to the upper rungs where a cultivator first steps between stitches. The Dao of Life figures heavily in its protagonist's survival.

Key characters

Key events

Awakening from a dying cultivator's blood; growing ear-shaped leaves to learn human speech; the long climb to Core Formation; a near-total destruction by distant immortals and a decades-long regrowth, during which the Dao of Life is learned; the turn to enslaver-ruler by soul-marks; the killing of Dedalus; and the ascent toward Monarch as elder cultivators converge on the drain.

Theories & resonances

Evergreen's origin — waking from the blood of a dead cultivator — is a case of the Loom's scattered-seed thread: dying high-realm beings appear across the weave to leave themselves in lower stitches, as a hunted master does in Blaze and a dead immortal does within a relic elsewhere. Whether these are attempts to cheat severance or to plant inheritors is a theory only. So too is the resonance between the god-tree and the barrack-parable Alden tells of a devouring oak that must be made to die.

Open hooks

What grows in Evergreen's pocket inner-world; who the distant immortals were that nearly killed it; whether an unbodied intelligence can climb the whole ladder at all; and the coming clash with Davion's generation.
